I did a custom do-it-yourself (DIY) retrofit to replace my older floor-level wood cabinets. I needed to keep the expensive counter-top tiling that matched the existing tiled backsplashes and floor. The steel cabinets turned out to be very easy to work with. The way they simply attached to the wall at the top edge made it easy to install them perfectly even though none of the walls or floor are perfectly square or flat in our older house. I also had to trim 2 side panels at their bottoms because of my non-standard counter thickness. This was easy to do (perfectly) with a standard metal jig-saw. It was also easy to attach cabinets together using just basic tools and hardware. I highly recommend these cabinets for any DIY project.
Steel Kitchen was also very helpful when I had a couple technical questions. They also sent me a couple extra filler pieces when I needed them. The ordering process was easy and they worked with me to make sure the cabinet order matched my planned floor plan. My cabinets totaled about $10,000. I think they are a very good value. Besides, they will last forever. The cabinets were also very professionally crated when they were shipped.
